Motivated by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are a multidisciplinary team of scholars dedicated to informing risk messaging and public policy.

Risk & Social Policy Working Group

We share timely and relevant data with policy makers and public health officials to inform risk communication and public policy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our group believes effective risk communication is critical to mitigating the spread of COVID-19, especially as stay-at-home orders are eased and people return to work and other daily activities. We are committed to supporting rigorous, interdisciplinary research that can inform both academic research and public policy. Our work has been funded by National Science Foundation as well as the University of Colorado, Boulder’s Natural Hazards Center. See some of our work here and our publications here.

We strive to publish cutting edge academic research that informs risk communication as well as the public policy process . Guided by the extensive collective research experience of top scholars from across the country, we use cutting edge methodologies to investigate the social, political, and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Interdisciplinary Approach

Our team is comprised of leading scholars from a host of disciplines including public policy, political science, public health, communication, and psychology. This approach results in robust perspectives and interpretations that provide a more comprehensive picture of the pandemic.

Informing Public Policy

We are committed to supporting ongoing efforts to combat the negative impacts of COVID-19. Our research seeks to inform best practices for effectively communicating and, relatedly, legislating COVID-19 risks. To this end, we are committed to disseminating data and reports that are readily accessible to state and local policy makers.
